When the Darkness Comes
Chapter 4
Casey opened her eyes. Daniel was sitting beside her. He smiled at her, lifted her fingers to his lips.
"Hey, gorgeous," he said softly.
"Hey, handsome."
"Feel better?"
She nodded, reached out and traced his jaw with her finger. "Thank you."
"Anytime, Angel." He pushed a lock of hair from her face. "Can you…will you tell me about the duffel in my office?" he asked quietly. His eyes were guarded, his heart pounding against his ribs.
She smiled. "I was going to try to get to the Alpha site if your reports weren’t…right. I thought General Hammond might be able to help."
He smiled. "That’s really smart, babe. If we had been compromised, that would have been a good move."
"So, can we go home now?"
"Not yet. Doctor Montigue found something in the x-ray he took last night."
She looked at him. "What?"
"It’s a…uh…transmitter."
"A what?"
"Transmitter. Sort of like we tag animals with. Only it seems to…trigger…your subconscious."
"You’re joking, right?"
Daniel shook his head. "No, Case. I’m not. Something…someone on PY2 498 tagged you while you were there. I was able to contact them through your dreams. We’ve been waiting for you to wake up so that we could go. They’ve promised to take it out."
Casey shivered. She thought for a minute, then started pulling her lower lip between her teeth. "Daniel, we were there for three days and nothing happened to us. If it happened while I was…dead…why would they tag a dead ‘animal’?"
"Babe, you spent two nights there alone. I’m betting that it happened one of those nights."
She nodded. "Daniel, I’m sorry."
"For what?"
"Doubting you."
He put her fingers to his lips, tears filled his eyes. "God knows I’ve given you reason to, Angel."
She put her hand against his cheek. "I know you better than that. I shouldn’t have let my jealousy get in the way."
"Casey, there is no reason for you to apologize. If anyone owes anyone an apology, I owe you."
She smiled at him. "Love you."
"Love you, Angel."
"Kiss me?"
Daniel smiled, and put his lips against hers, moved his tongue against them until she opened to him. He slanted his mouth over hers, putting all of his love into that one kiss.
She pulled away, slightly breathless. "Anymore of that and we’re not going anywhere for an hour or so," she smiled.
He grinned. "At least an hour."
"Well, you’re not getting an hour," Jack grinned from the doorway. "We’re leaving as soon as Case is dressed and ready."

SG-1 stood at the bottom of the ramp, waiting for the final chevrons to lock and encode. Casey looked up at Daniel, smiled, her eyes bright with love. He winked at her, took her hand and held it tightly in his own. The team walked through the ‘gate, looked around. It was dawn on the planet, the white sand reflecting pink as the sun began its journey across the deep blue sky.
"Hello?" Daniel called, walking toward the water. Casey stood on one side of him, Jack on the other, Teal'c beside Casey. They saw and heard nothing. "Hello?"
"Hey, come get your damn hardware out of my head!" Casey called. The men beside her chuckled.
Nothing.
Casey grabbed Daniel’s arm. "I’m starting to get a really bad feeling about this."
"Get to the 'gate!" Jack commanded. "Daniel, get that damned thing dialed!"

She opened her eyes. It was so dark, so cold. She could almost feel the silence as well. She tried to move. There were restraints holding her arms and legs down. She could feel the panic well up inside her. "Daniel?"
No answer.
"Jack?…Teal'c?"
Only silence.
"Daniel, please, talk to me!"
'Casey?'
She felt her heart skip at the sound of his voice. She closed her eyes, tried to calm the rapid beating of her heart. "I’m here Daniel. Wherever here is." She shifted slightly, felt cold metal against her skin. "Oh lovely. I’m naked and strapped down in the dark."
She heard him chuckle. 'Me, too. I figure Jack and Teal'c must be in the same predicament.'
"Except that they don’t have a way to communicate."
'True.'
"Daniel, I’m really scared," she admitted.
'It’s okay, Angel. I’m a bit scared myself.'
"Daniel, there’s something I have to tell you…just in case…"
'Case, we’ll get out of this. When Duncan doesn’t hear back from us, he’ll send the
Marines.'She snorted. "For all the good it will do! They…whoever they are, will just have more…test subjects. Sweetheart, I want you to know…I forgive you. I heard what…that thing…asked you. I know that you would never intentionally hurt me."
There was no reply.
"Daniel?" Fear tinged her voice, the thought of being alone terrifying.
'Thank you, Angel. Love you.'
She sighed, grateful that he was still ‘with her’. "Love you, too, sweetheart."
'Other than being strapped down and naked, are you okay?'
"Yeah, I think so." She thought about Daniel, laying in exactly the same condition she was. She started giggling.
'Hey, what’s so funny over there?'
"I was just thinking, if I could get the keys to my restraints and a can of whipped cream, we might stay here for a few hours," she replied.
She heard him laughing. 'Great! Now I’m getting a friggin’ hard-on!'
She giggled again. "Like that idea, do ya?"
'Almost as much as I like the idea of getting the keys to my restraints and using that whipped cream on you.'
She shivered at the idea, felt the flames start to lick at her. "Maybe we should talk about something else," she suggested.
'What’s the matter, Angel, getting hot?'
"Too hot," she replied. She felt a sudden prick, like a needle, in her arm. "Daniel! They just did something to me!"
'Me, too. It’s okay, I’ll still be right here.'
